Step 17: Gametiquette

Folks, this section may (or not) be cause for debate but this is an MMORPG therefore we play with people and not against them.  A few suggestions to make sure the game is a fun place for all are below, I will vote people off the island if they break these rules repeatedly in my groups/ops on a regular basis.  I am a patient guy but have no time for those who make this a negative experience.  Am sure you'll agree!

  • Fleet chat: please do not feed the trolls.  Please do not feed the trolls.  Please do not feed the trolls.  Also when someone asks for assistance please lend a hand, we all had to start at the beginning.
  • Time management: this is my pet-peeve.  If you run with people please be cognizant of their time.  Time is not an unlimited resource like sunlight for us puny mortals.  If you want to join a group and finish something, it's not cool for more than a few minutes.  Been in situations where we waited for pugs for 10+ mins.  I even had a KP 8 SM run once where at the puzzle droid boss someone quickly ate dinner (I was not raid leader, or buh-bye).  If you want people to run with you, be ready to run, so mod your gear BEFORE getting a group going or joining one.
    • If someone has a RL requirement and needs to speedrun something they need to say it, not cool for the rest to not complete as they get RL aggro
  • Language: dropping f-bombs and such language like it's going out of style or want to feel gansta' is not necessary at all.  Only shows lack of maturity on a regular basis and will get your reported in some situations.  Especially vicious 1:1 comments.  This is a game, not real life, chill & have fun
  • Be patient: not everyone is at the same stage of game knowledge and in fact be helpful.  The reason I put this site together is for that reason.  Also got tired of repeating myself :P
  • If players are not respectful or try your patience, give them a head's up and nicely too.  Bear in mind that the typed word does not convey emotion like the spoken word and that's especially true in English.  Most times they'll adjust & apologize.  If they start misbehaving moar, maybe that's your cue to catapult out of the castle like the poor cow in Monty Python's Holy Grail.
  • For when you plan to vote someone please give fair warning, in my experience players do adjust.
  • Newbies: sometimes your get well-meaning newbies who click on shiney and end up with you.  Think Flashpoints. Two common scenarios:
    • If they are friendly and reply in chat, teach them you can make friends you'll be surprised.  A friendly carry in Hammer Station is not a bad thing as long as they heed thy wisdom.
    • If they don't respond in chat and you look at their legacy to see they're sporting a new car smell, then yes I'd be tempted to vote them off as they're just not ready.  Tell them it's ok.  This goes against point #2 on time, Leroys are bad for all whether they know they're one or not.
